  1. ABOUT THIS PACKAGE
  2. -------------------
  3. This disk or stuffit archive contains a demo version of Jason Harper's ViewFrame, 
  4. the Newton exploration and debugging tool that resides completely on a Newton 
  5. MessagePad. ViewFrame is actually three separate programs:
  6.  
  7. •    ViewFrame - a program that lets you examine and modify Newton objects (in the 
  8. file "VFrame Demo.pkg");
  9.  
  10. •    ViewFrame Editor - a NotePad-like editor for entering and executing 
  11. NewtonScript™ programs (in the file "VF Edito Demo.pkg"); and
  12.  
  13. •    Programmer's Keyboard - a Newton keyboard for quick entry of NewtonScript 
  14. expressions (file "ProgKbd Demo.pkg").
  15.  
  16. In addition, we include abbreviated documentation in Word 5.0 format with this 
  17. demo. Contact us if you need a plain text version.

  19. All you need is a way to load them onto a Newton. We recommend either:
  20.  
  21. •    Apple's Newton Connection Kit, available in both Macintosh and Windows 
  22. version from APDA;
  23. •    Apple's Newton ToolKit, also available from APDA; or
  24. •    Peter Kaas' Newton Package Downloader, which lets you download a package to 
  25. a Newton using AppleTalk. This is available from fine bulletin boards and electronic 
  26. services everywhere.

  28. ViewFrame is ideal for examining and debugging NewtonScript programs, 
  29. especially when the Newton's serial port is unavailable for connection to NTK's 
  30. Inspector. It is also perfect for exploring NewtonScript programming without buying 
  31. Apple's Newton ToolKit.

  33. The DEMO VS. THE REAL THING
  34. --------------------------
  35. In the ViewFrame demo, there is a 1/8 chance displayed text items will be replaced 
  36. by the string "DEMO".  In hex displays, all "D"s and "E"s are replaced by "?"s..  In 
  37. printed/faxed output, a huge "DEMO" overlays the page, in addition to the DEMO 
  38. replacements in the output itself.  In the Keyboard demo, the 'A' key produces the 
  39. string "A DEMO", which can be backspaced to produce just an A. In addition, you 
  40. can access ViewFrame from within other NewtonScript programs, or create custom 
  41. object viewers. These capabilities are not included in the documentation inclued 
  42. with this demo.

  44. WARNING: These demo programs have the same package names and app symbols 
  45. as the real versions, so they cannot coexist on the same Newton at the same time.

  47. HOW TO GET THE REAL THING
  48. -------------------------
  49. ViewFrame is available exclusively from Creative Digital Systems, ViewFrame's 
  50. publisher (see below for complete contact information). The complete package, 
  51. including three separate Newton packages on a Macintosh floppy disk, plus a 40+ 
  52. page manual, is priced at $70. The price for PIE Developers subscribers is $60. Site 
  53. licenses are available.
